My Iphone Apps

After waiting for long time, I finally got my hands on the Iphone 4 and boy its a nice piece of gadget to be held on to.

The iphone 4 definitely has all the pomp and glory that most us has heard about it. And yes this is coming from the mouth of a former Blackberry Curve guy!

There are few of the apps I use which has enormously increased my connectivity to the WWW.. They are:

1. googleappGoogle Mobile App (Free):

This is one of the googles engineering geniuses displayed in a simplistic manner. This app can obviously do a voice search, which means you say something and it recognizes that and googles it for you. Secondly the google goggles.. what this does is, you take a snap of an object and then the google apps scans this image and then searches for that product name. So far I have got successful results for a Nestle Purelife bottle water, Samsung TV Remote … so you get the picture!

2. whtsappWhatsApp (Paid -0.99Cents) :

This app was introduced to me by my friend in UK. Basically what this app does is that it let you communicate with your friends around the world (whoever buys it) like an Instant Messenger (IM). The advantage is that you do not need to create a username or password, it searches your contact list and recognizes who has this app and adds that persons contact into its chat list. Then when they are online, which 99% time they are, you can chat with them. It gives you huge savings on international SMS.

3. ebuddyEbuddy (Free) :

Ebuddy app has the free version and professional version. Basically this app lets your combine your AIM, Yahoo, MSN, Gtalk & Facebook chat into one screen. Then it can subgroup all your chat friend by name or to whichever group they belong. I find this a huge time saver as I do not need to login into each messenger individually.

4. facebookFacebook, twitterTwitter & linkedinLinkedin (Free) :

I am including all these 3 apps into one category as they are the very obvious one and most commonly used apps in Smartphones history.
Though I should mention that facebook has this cool new subsection in its app called Places. This lets you see where all your friends are “checked-in”. How this works is that, for example, if you have a meeting at
starbucks, once you are there, you can simply go to this app and click on a button that says “check-in”. In your profile this posts as “Sarath Chandran has checked into Star Bucks”. This app has a dual advantage, one it helps in local promotion of businesses, second it helps your friend to know that you have already reached the location.

5: bloombergBloomberg, canoeCanoe (Free) :

If you are interested in learning what’s happening in the business world, bloomberg app is a must have in your pocession.

Canoe.ca is part of the Canadian news network. It gives you accessibility to choose from all the province of canada. So in your tiny handheld, you can get news access accross Canada.

6. bbcnewsBBC News (Free) :

I love this app, this is mainly why i did not combine this with Canoe or bloomberg. This app gives you video feed And text format of each news. Which means that if you are like me, reading is your preference you can do that or if you like to view video you can do so too. It also has a real time audio stream of news or contents.

This app can be configured to view all the latest news around the world. For example my app is designed to show the following news:

Top Story, US & Canada, South Asia, Asia Pacific, Latin America, Middle East, Africa, Technology , Features & Analysis, Science & Environment, Business

The lay out is too clever that even though it shows all these news, its easy to navigate and find content.

BBC News App

BBC News App

7. flashlightFlashlight (Free) :

This is a clever little app, which lets you use your iphone as a flashlight. There are more use to it like it can show various other light sequence, but the most useful I found was to be able to use as flashlight.

I am sure there are more to come, but so far I found these apps a very useful add on to my iphone.
